australian music showcase
I'm just a young bloke passionate for music. I have some classical background in playing piano and flute, and I've messed around here and there with composition before but it really was just a hobby; I don't really know much theory, I just make decisions based on whether I like something or I don't. This competition to me is just to see how I fare against other young Victorians, and if I win, I think it would be the boost of confidence I need to take my hobby to the next step. But the best thing that could happen is if people can hear and enjoy my music.
Hi, My name is Serena Su. I am a musician who plays cello, piano and the harp. I've had many years of music theory and composition. I love singing and participate in the school senior choir. I completed my LTCL (Licentiate of Trinity College London Harp Recital) exam on the harp in 2019, my Associate diploma on the cello in 2017 and I am aiming for my FTCL exam for the cello (which was supposed to occur this year). In 2017, I also completed my Grade 5 Music Theory examination and grade 6 Musicianship examination with AMEB. Since then, I have thought of alternative ways of expressing my passion for music instead of my usual music performance. Hence, I have a couple of compositions I would love to share. I recently picked up the Saxophone to explore this passion of music as well.
I'm a year 12 student from Victoria. While completing VCE, I also undertake a Certificate III course in Music Industry (Sound Design). The music I compose and produce spans orchestral, rock and dance genres. Some of my primarily dance focused music can be found on Soundcloud under the name DJ JD.
I am a Viola player who loves to write challenging music for Viola, Violin, String Quartet and Piano. I love to use my spare time to write because I use it as a means of expression. I believe music is one of the best ways to convey thoughts and feelings. My "Suite for Solo Viola" was premiered on 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne last year (by myself). I just love to write and play music!
My name is Gemma Bean and I am currently completing year 12 at Northcote High School in Melbourne's inner-north. I have been involved in my school's music program since year 7, and met the two bandmates of my rock band 'Stamp' when I was in year 8, which was a stroke of luck given the fact that I started high school knowing zero people having moved from the Gold Coast a week before my first day. I've written songs forever; music has always been my outlet. I wrote a song on the 13th of August and decided to make a demo for it layering voice memo tracks on my phone with my friend Antho from my rock band. I would love to be able to professionally record this song once we are out of lockdown as I am so pleased with how this turned out having worked on it for only a few hours over a couple of days. This is my first demo (and first ever original song online) of many I plan to complete as a creative outlet in quarantine.
My name is Tom Glover, I'm 17 years old, and I play guitar. I record and compose music for fun. I'm not really sure what you would call the genre, I suppose it falls under the general category of instrument or rock, I like to call it alien rock. My biggest influences guitar-wise include Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Plini and Jason Becker, but I do listen to a wide range of music. I'm entering this competition purely because I want to get my music 'out there'. It's very hard to get it across to a very specific, small target audience.
