Serena Su
Big Bang Barry
Hi, My name is Serena Su. I am a musician who plays cello, piano and the harp. I've had many years of music theory and composition. I love singing and participate in the school senior choir. I completed my LTCL (Licentiate of Trinity College London Harp Recital) exam on the harp in 2019, my Associate diploma on the cello in 2017 and I am aiming for my FTCL exam for the cello (which was supposed to occur this year). In 2017, I also completed my Grade 5 Music Theory examination and grade 6 Musicianship examination with AMEB. Since then, I have thought of alternative ways of expressing my passion for music instead of my usual music performance. Hence, I have a couple of compositions I would love to share. I recently picked up the Saxophone to explore this passion of music as well.
The composition I have attached is something I composed last year where I was my school house (named Barry) instrumental captain for the performing arts festival. This required me to compose something which fit within the storyline and theme. The theme was space and this composition had to encapsulate the sudden mood change from a surreal tone and end on a stressful and urgent tone. I had only 1.5 weeks to rehearse this with limited instrumentalists, due to the lack of a diverse range of instrumentalists. Many of the girls were pianists and so, I attempted to add a percussion instrument which was similar to a piano, or was quick to pick up. I have attached a Sibelius recording, one of my recordings from last year (however, there has been a couple of changes since then) and the score. There is a gong at the end, which neither the recording or Sibelius captured, but it is in the score. Hope you enjoy!
