Tom Glover
Fleetingly Everlasting
My name is Tom Glover, I'm 17 years old, and I play guitar. I record and compose music for fun. I'm not really sure what you would call the genre, I suppose it falls under the general category of instrument or rock, I like to call it alien rock.
My biggest influences guitar-wise include Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Plini and Jason Becker, but I do listen to a wide range of music. I'm entering this competition purely because I want to get my music 'out there'. It's very hard to get it across to a very specific, small target audience.
I wrote this song in a week, which is rare, it came together very quickly.
One of the things I do in almost all of my songs is to use octaves. A particular passage is doubled, one higher, one lower, it gives a really nice powerful effect to a passage that needs to be emphasised, or just needs a little flavour. The climax has so many different guitar parts playing, which creates a big epic sound.
The name Fleetingly Everlasting is very symbolic to me, it's a concept I created which intertwines all moments of time, no matter how small or fleeting, they last forever locked in time, forever connected. And even though our memories fade and grow dull, our experiences, joys and moments all last forever. I sometimes feel like this song came from God, it is my favourite one that I have written.
