The Build Up, The Battle, The Victory
I am a violinist and pianist. I am currently preparing for my Grade 8 AMEB exams on both instruments. At my school, I am in the PEGS Symphony Orchestra, the Infinity String Ensemble and the McNab String Quartet. I didn’t enjoy composing music until last year where I got to use notation software Sibelius for the first time as part of a music elective I was undertaking and have enjoyed it since.
At the beginning of ‘The Build Up’, the melody is played by the flute, then is taken over by the violin. Then the clarinet disrupts the initial peace of the first 10 bars which creates more tension. In ‘The Battle’, the key changes from F major to Bb minor to signify a change in mood. A range of dynamics were used to depict an aggressive mood conveyed in a battle. The ‘Victory’ is the final section of this piece which is inspired by a fanfare with the use of dotted rhythms and trumpet and trombone which take over the melody.
