Instrumentation was derived from my year level in the prospect of performance. As it was the composition for my VCE Music Styles EAT, I found my composition's initial vision would be much longer than the 4-minute time limit. Thus, drawing from themes of ephemerality within poems of Emily Dickinson, I added an abruptly dissonant second theme to contrast the Ravel-Esque textures and harmonies of the first seen at the beginning. This second theme robs the conventional beauty that exudes from the first and represents the suffocating VCE time limitation in its seeming ploy to reap death upon my creative process.
