Suite Española

00:00 / 05:36

I have studied music since I was 4 years old. Initially I started with classical piano and later on also started playing the trumpet. In 2019, I have achieved an AMusA diploma in classical piano. In addition to classical music, from early years, I have developed a strong passion for jazz and improvisation and have been inspired by the music of Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Hiromi, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie. I have performed in St Leonard's College Big Band on trumpet and piano as well as various orchestras, concert bands and chamber groups (piano trio). I have twice been selected as a Future Finalist at the annual Australian Generations in Jazz National Competition.

I have composed and arranged music for many years in different styles. When I was 11, in 2014, I represented Australia with my composition, ‘Snowy Winter’, at the Asia Pacific Junior Original Concert in Singapore. In the future, I would love to continue with my love for jazz music but also study composition and arrangement.

My composition ‘Suite Española’ was inspired by my love and interest in the Spanish culture. I tried to include a range of orchestral instruments and quite a few of them are featured as soloists at different points in the piece. The piece consists of a number of contrasting sections, from a tutti orchestra to a tango section.
